CIHR Open Forum on Proposed Changes to the Open Operating Grant Competition

Date: Feb 24, 2012   Author: BM Shea

Dr. Jane Aubin, Chief Scientific Officer of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) will provide an overview and answer questions on the proposed changes to the CIHR Open Grant Competition.

The changes include:

· two granting streams (including a 7 year program stream),

· a New Investigator track,

· and elimination of the current peer-review standing committees and a shift to a College of Reviewers.

In addition, CIHR has stated that there will be a greater need for institutions to identify commitment and support to the researchers (e.g., time release, infrastructure).

The document outlining the changes and timeline is available at http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/44761.html

We encourage all faculty, scientists, grant developers, grant facilitators, trainees and others who are involved in health research to attend.
